Custom Wedding Candle Favors in New York City
Custom Wedding Candle Favors in New York City
A Stormy September Wedding at the Picnic House in Prospect Park
Some of my favorite custom candle projects are the ones that become part of someone’s most meaningful moments — and this wedding in New York City was exactly that.
On September 6, friends of ours were married at the beautiful Picnic House in Prospect Park in Brooklyn. It was one of those classic New York weather days — stormy and rainy outside — but the moment guests stepped inside, the space felt like a warm, glowing spring garden escape.
Bright florals spilled across long tables, candlelight reflected off glassware, and every detail of the day was incredibly thoughtful. I had the honor of creating custom wedding candle favors that also doubled as guest place cards, along with additional table scape candles to help create a signature scent experience for the evening.
Custom Candle Favors That Doubled as Place Cards
For each guest, I created a custom candle favor in a gold tin, placed directly on their napkin at the table. Each candle featured a label personalized with the guest’s name, so it served two purposes:
• A beautiful place card to guide guests to their seats
• A custom candle wedding favor they could take home and enjoy
One of the most special parts of this project was that the candle labels were designed to match the couple’s entire wedding paper suite. The artwork included a charming doodle illustration of the Picnic House in Prospect Park, tying the favors directly into the setting where the celebration took place.
This kind of thoughtful detail is something I absolutely love helping couples bring to life - when the candles become part of the overall design story of the day.
Selecting a Signature Wedding Scent
A detail that was especially important to the bride and groom was selecting a signature scent for their wedding day.
Together we chose a fragrance called Lemon Driftwood - a fresh, uplifting scent with citrus brightness balanced by soft coastal wood notes. It paired beautifully with the vibrant florals throughout the room and helped create a welcoming atmosphere as guests arrived.
To fill the large event space with the fragrance, I also poured blush iridescent jar candles, filled halfway to create a soft glow across the tables. As they burned throughout the evening, the scent subtly filled the room while adding warmth and ambiance to the reception.
The result was one of my favorite parts of candle design: when fragrance becomes part of the memory of a place and moment.
The Little Details Guests Took Home
To complete the experience, the couple also included matchboxes for each guest so everyone could light their candle when they got home.
I love when couples do this because it turns a small favor into something more meaningful — a moment later on when someone lights the candle and remembers the celebration.
It’s a small detail, but those are often the things that make a wedding feel personal.
Why Custom Candles Make Beautiful Wedding Favors
Custom candles are one of my favorite wedding projects because they combine beauty, scent, and meaning in a way that lasts beyond the day itself.
They can be designed to:
• Match your wedding invitations and stationery
• Include guest names or custom messages
• Feature venue illustrations or custom artwork
• Create a signature scent for your event
• Serve as both place cards and wedding favors
And long after the wedding is over, guests still have something tangible that reminds them of the celebration.
